the finished quilt
The final quilt for the Apprenticeship grant. It's entitled, "Hope," as it is a map for the Underground Railroad.
Finished my second quilt piece for the Kentucky Folk Art Grant- an Easter table runner. It is appliqued, pieced and quilted. I love it; it is so bright and cheery! I began working on it as a demonstration piece at KY Crafted, The Market and finished it in time for Easter. That is something that often doesn't happen. I finish the holiday piece five months later sometimes!
Hello Again my friends!
Hello Friends,
I hope you have been keeping well during these past few years. After finishing the KY Folk Art Apprenticeship Grant, I started teaching Textiles Arts, among other things, at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, KY.
While there, I made this quilt from leftover scraps of students' fabric. It is one of my all time favorite quilts and I call it, "Companions on the Journey," as we are all on this path of life together.

Made in Kentucky: The Market
Hi Friends,
Helen and I were thrilled to be invited to be demonstrators of our craft at Made in Kentucky: The Market which is a juried Craft/Art show in Lexington at the Convention Center in downtown where Rupp Arena is located. It is this coming week-end and we will be there on Sunday, March 9th from 10 AM to 5 PM. I received a phone call from Mark Brown who is Director of the Kentucky Folk and Traditional Arts Program inviting us to show what we have been doing this year as recipients of the Kentucky Folk Art Grant. Here is the plan: We will be ready to go at 10 AM. At 11 AM we will demonstrate piecing to create quilt squares. At noon, we will demonstrate and teach applique. Then at 1 PM we will demonstrate how to put the layers together and how to quilt the "sandwich" to create the finished quilt. We repeat the demonstrations in order at 2, 3 and 4 PM. I sincerely hope you can join us. Also we will be interviewed by folklorist from Western KY University. This looks to be a great time!!!
Also, we are mentioned on the blog for The Market: http://creativecommonwealth.ky.gov/2014/02/19/exhibitsampler/

Halloween quilts - always fun, never scary! and the KY Log Cabin Block
Halloween quilt about 50 by 60 inches. This was inspired by candy corn! |
2 sided table runner. One side is Halloween and the reverse is Thanksgiving. |
Smaller quilt made totally from left over scraps!! I almost like it better than the first quilt. Top is finished, but it is not quilted yet. |
detail from quilt above. I love the friendly little monsters. It looks to me like they are holding toothbrushes! Very appropriate for Halloween. |
I made a few items for Halloween. It was a lot of fun to pick out the fabric. As you can see in the picture above, not all the fabrics are "Halloween." I used color combinations to give it the feel of Halloween and did add some Halloween fabric. The monster fabric was on clearance and not considered a holiday print at all!! I love bargains.
More importantly, I have been working on my project quilt for the Kentucky Folk Art Grant. It is a beautiful log cabin.

And the winner is: me!
At the recent shop hop, Helen and I registered for the grand prize, a quilting retreat, and door prizes. On Tuesday afternoon, I got a call from Linda at Cabin Arts notifying me that I was a winner of a door prize from her shop. It is a bag with fabric, rulers and other good things. Just another reason that Cabin Arts is my favorite quilting shop!! I am on my way this afternoon to pick it up and will let you know all the goodies contained within!!
